Hi lovely blog readers!
If you’re reading this, you probably are struggling with acne and I am so so sorry; I feel your pain, and just know that I love you, no matter who you are or how “ugly” you think you look. You are a beautiful soul and acne cannot take that away from you. ♥
(And if you’re reading this and don’t suffer from acne, then thanks for reading! You’re awesome too 🙂 )
Today I’m gonna tell you a little bit about my experience using birth control for acne!
But, of course, we need a little backstory first, my friends. When I was 12 I started getting terrible, terrible acne. And I don’t mean terrible like I woke up with a few zits every week, I mean, I was in constant pain and my self confidence was getting lower and lower. I was miserable inside and out. It continued to worsen and by the time I was 17, it looked like this:
I wish this was the worst it got, but I couldn’t bring myself to photograph my skin at that time in my life. Let’s just say, you couldn’t tell if I was a person or a lobster… and not in the delicious way.
In September of 2014, I made the decision to see my OBGYN and talk to her about my problem. I was 17 and needed to make an appointment with a lady doctor anyways, but the pain and suffering I was going through was getting unbareable.
I had read every article and watched every professional and personal YouTube video on birth control for acne. (Trust me, I’m a researcher. I’ve diagnosed myself with about 14 fatal diseases, courtesy of WebMD.) I knew everything I could be possibly getting myself into, but I knew in the end it was worth a shot. When you struggle for so long and feel like you’ve tried everything under the sun, you’re willing to go for any new opportunity that presents itself!
In September 2014, I began using birth control for acne. One year later, I am beyond grateful that I made that decision.
I won’t go into crazy detail about my experiences, because *DRUM ROLL PLEASE!* I have 2, yes TWO videos all about my skin’s journey while on the good ole BC!
Around 6 month update video (Jan. 2015)
One Year Update (Sept. 2015)
Now, a year later, my skin looks like this! *happy dances compulsively*
I hope this was helpful to someone out there – that is my goal for all of my skincare posts/videos!
